The grassed area at the recreation ground is becoming a bit of a mud-bath due to the required closure of a section of the tarmac path whilst the play park renovation is under-way. It seems that the rec is used as a cut-through to the town centre by a great many people and so we have decided to install a temporary footpath, which the contractors have told us will be in place by the end of the week. What this has shown is that the planned high quality permanent footpaths are likely to be well used!
I visited the site yesterday and was quite surprised to see that ALL the play equipment has now been removed and the workmen have started the unenviable task of removing the top surface of the flooring material to reveal what is lurking underneath! The photos can be viewed at http://cartertonrec.wordpress.com/gallery/.

The Rec is most definitely use as a through route by lots of us living that side of Carterton & when the path around the outside was open we could choose to use that & avoid going on the grass. Now that we cannot do this, the grass is being well trodden.
Thanks Lin. The temporary path, which I am reliably informed will be in place by the end of the week, should address this issue. I expect the play park to be completed within 12 weeks.
