I had the pleasure of hosting the Rt Hon David Cameron yesterday when he visited several locations in Carterton from the opening of the new play area at the Alvescot Road Recreation Ground and the all new Carterton Job Club.
Hoping for fine, perhaps even sunny weather would seem to be a reasonable thing to do but alas the weather was not kind to us and the crowds were much less bustling than we had wished for, but we pressed on regardless with the finest of British spirit!
I introduced Mr Cameron to Carolyn Place who was employed as our landscape architect for this play park regeneration project and a small group representing EJ Services who carried out the ground work. Next to meet the PM was Emma and Matty from Carterton Youth Council and a group of teenagers who were sheltering in the new teen shelter. Mr Cameron was very interested in the Hi-Tech aspect to the park in that the shelter has it’s own solar panel and will soon be fitted with bluetooth technology with in-built speakers too.
After a walk around some of the play equipment, a visit to the Foxbury Farm BBQ and a look at the inflatables, we made our way to the grassy mound where George, Carterton’s junior Town Crier announced our special guest who in turn officially opened the park.
At Carterton Job Club I introduced Mr Cameron to Catherine Chater who masterminded the set-up of the Job Club scheme, who in turn introduced various service providers and clients. He spoke very openly with a number of people and seemed to be genuinely impressed with the initiative which already supports a good number of townsfolk as well as people from slightly further afield.
OxBox TV were on hand to record the PM’s visit to Carterton, the films are linked below…
