Home » About me

I was elected as Independent Councillor for Carterton Upavon Ward in June 2007 and re-elected in 2011; my current term is until 2015.

I have worked in Aerospace Engineering and Vocational Training in the Royal Air Force, where I have spent more than fifteen years working in scheduled and flight line maintenance from routine inspections to non destructive testing. During this time, five years has been spent in the Training and Development arena as an Instructor, NVQ Assessor and Internal Verifier and 2 years as an Engineering & Logistics Advisor in Force Headquarters with responsibility for Fleet Planning and Engineering Liaison/advice to the Integrated Project Teams, Station Operations, Aircraft Squadrons and Station Executives. Currently employed as a facilitator within the Transformation and Continuous Improvement Team at RAF Brize Norton, which means I spend my time understanding and breaking out work processes to establish whether they are efficient, effective and value for money.

Married to Kerry for 17 years. We have lived in Carterton for 8 years with our son Nathan, who is 16 and having studied very successfully at Carterton Community College, now has his sights set on moving into further education at the Henry Box school.

Unlike most Councillors in Local Government; I am completely Independent with no affiliation to any political party. I strive to be as open, honest and accessible as possible, always confirming my personal views and my political stance on issues which matter to local people including town development, young people, recreation, planning applications, policy, traffic, policing etc.

My Independent status means I am able to speak freely and honestly on the subjects which matter most to people in Carterton. I welcome feedback, constructive criticism and the views of everybody. I read every email and letter and I strive to answer them all within 48hrs.

Adrian.

    Hi Adrian,

Now that we are back to one Supermarket (which I refuse to use), what are the plans and timelines for future businesses to set up in Carteton.

Reason I ask is that there seems to be little progress in the areas that are constantly mentioned (like the old Osprey site).

    Many thanks

  2. Lee,

Firstly let me just say that I share your frustration entirely. The Osprey site has been earmarked for housing and the adjacent derelict garage site is likely to be developed as a new garage forecourt with small retail outlet but due to planning etc. we are still waiting for progress to be made. The old Dowley’s site was secured and purchased by Aldi some time ago and they have also successfully acquired planning permission to build and operate a food store at that location and yet all we have seen so far is the site demolished.

Town Clerk chases these applications up on a regular basis to see where they are in the system – the Osprey site application seems to be clogged in the planning system with amendments being insisted on by the district planners. Aldi claim to intend to commence building a new store later this year – we will see! Obviously as soon as I hear anything worthy of reporting I will do so on this site.

    Dear Councillor Coomber,
Can I just say that after meeting you and your family many years ago at RAF Leuchars, I now discover that you have taken on the role of councillor. I am in no way surprised at the way you have taken on the responsibility of the community that you now live so seriously! I hope that that this message finds you and your family well.
    Daryl xx
